My Personal Philosophy of Giftedness:
I believe an individual is born gifted; it is not a learned behavior nor can be taught. It seems that people are sometimes confused between students who are exceptionally smart and students who are truly gifted. In my thirteen years of teaching, I’ve only worked with a handful of truly gifted individuals, but dozens of exceptionally smart students. Truly gifted students make up their own special cohort. They are the students that are eager to find answers, solve critical thinking problems, and work independently on concepts that exceed their peers. There are so many different perspectives and definitions of gifted education. It is intriguing to read and study the research and opinions of others. I am continuing to pursue more information about gifted education to fully develop and refine my definition and philosophy of giftedness.
